The Ways We View Equality

I actually think both Josh Barro and Bob Herbert make valuable points about the postwar period. There seems to be at least two visions of the future, and each has its roots in either that postwar period as a white man’s boom time, or as a work in progress for the whole of society. Of the two, I think the former is a myth. There never was a period in American history when women, slaves, freedmen, Negroes, blacks, or African-Americans, or immigrants of whatever color contributed substantially to American society.
