Democratic Nomination First, Confused as Usual

28 Aug

I listened to the Florida delegation cast its full 211 votes. Confusion about how Clinton would release her delegates to Senator Barack Obama marred what is an historic moment, the first nomination by a major American political party of an African-American man, and will give Republicans some greasy grist.

There was a rumor Illinois would be selected to put Obama over the top in the delegate count, but then Illinois yielded to New York. Senator Hillary Clinton, surrounded by other officials in the delegation, moved to call by acclimation Barack Obama’s nomination. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called the motion and announced the historic nomination.

At least in the end, the Democrats followed their own rules.
